Back in the 1970s and for long afterwards, Richard Nixon was considered one of the biggest villains in American history. Threatened with impeachment, he had resigned the presidency over the Watergate scandal.
Investigative reports, along with the Watergate hearings, revealed that Nixon’s staff had illegally wiretapped the offices of Democratic opponents and others on his so-called “enemies list.”
Ironically, Nixon had also “bugged” his own Oval Office and other White House locations, to keep a record of every conversation.
All these recordings led to Nixon resigning in disgrace, leaving most of America in a state of despair and confusion.
Of course, liberals were actually triumphant. They had brought down the evil Richard Nixon, whose anti-communism they despised.
Ever since then, many Republicans have wondered (as Nixon himself did) if a Democratic president would ever have been so thoroughly investigated and pushed out of office. They tried and failed to subject Bill Clinton to the same treatment, but his impeachment stalled and today his reputation among liberals is untarnished.
So: Could Obama withstand a scandal eerily similar to Watergate?
Evidence is piling up that when he was president, Barack Obama undertook wiretapping on a scale that makes Nixon look like an amateur.
Joe Hoft reports:
It is not unfounded that former President Obama would wire tap President Trump during the election process. This is because he has done this before. Here is a list of individuals who were wire tapped by the Obama Administration.
WikiLeaks released the following list on February 23rd (see link here) of Obama Administration wire taps:
* The US National Security Agency bugged a private climate change strategy meeting; between UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin;
* Obama bugged Chief of Staff of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for long term interception targetting his Swiss phone;
* Obama singled out the Director of the Rules Division of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Johann Human, and targetted his Swiss phone for long term interception;
* Obama stole sensitive Italian diplomatic cables detailing how Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu implored Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to help patch up his relationship with US President Barack Obama, who was refusing to talk to Netanyahu
This is just the beginning of the new WikiLeaks list, which is devoted to Obama’s eavesdropping on foreign dignitaries.
However, the report continues that “Obama wiretapped various individuals in the US media that were reporting information not flattering to the Obama administration.”
That’s particularly ironic, because included on Nixon’s notorious “enemies list” were a number of prominent journalists. In fact, one of them, Daniel Schorr, found out he was on the list while reading the newly released document on live TV:
As you can imagine, liberals at the time were up in arms. How dare the president of the United States express such hostility to the news media? And of course, we’ve heard the same outrage expressed over Donald Trump’s far more public disdain for the Fourth Estate.
So… How will liberals spin the revelation that their great hero, Barack Obama, had done the same thing that helped bring down the evil Richard Nixon?
That’s obvious: When you’re a liberal, your motto is “It’s different when we do it.” Those anti-Obama writers were obviously “racist” and who knows what else, we’ll be told.
But that make not work this time. Millions of Americans are staunchly on Trump’s side, and will consider those anti-Obama journalists heroes for daring to question the Democratic narrative.
Only one thing is for certain right now: The next few weeks, and possibly years, are going to get even more interesting.
